Named after Mt Ararat, this little Victorian town became a boomtown due to the discovery of gold in 1857. Ararat’s main industries include wool, beef and wine. Its location between numerous mountain ranges gives it access to wind farms which provide large amounts of renewable energy in the region. Ararat has two major festivals: the Golden Gateway Festival and the Jailhouse Rock Festival.
